Yolo produced two FzyBr litters, first with CH Notorious Tru Blu Gixxer and later with CH Ultima Thule’s Xerxes. Her Xerxes litter produced FzyBr’s Caesar, carrying her forward into the next generation of our breeding program.
Meet FzyBr’s Caesar, Bolt from her Gixxer litter and Remi, her granddaughter.
The Road to Yolo, Our Foundation Saint Bernard
Yolo came into my life because of a dog show. I worked on the Saint Bernard Club of America National in Utah alongside Glenn Radcliffe of Opdyke Saints and Billy Buell of Summerlyn Saints. The National turned out to be very profitable for the club, and I was proud to be part of it. Supporting the Saint Bernard Club of America has always mattered to us at FzyBr, and the National was one of several efforts we made to help the club’s treasury. Another was a project called The Drool, which raised a significant cash donation for the club. This breed has given me so much, and it feels good to give a little back.
Somewhere along the way Billy told me that if I was going to be in this breed, I needed a proper Saint Bernard, so I had better get something good. That work at the National opened the door for me to get Yolo from Melon City, and I will always be grateful for it.
When it was time to pick her up, I went with Jeff Creasy of Notorious Tru Saints, who bred Gixxer, the sire of her first litter. We had been doing the specialty shows in the Milwaukee area, and from there we drove over to Melon City Saints to meet Jeff and Darcy Petersen. They gave me a big tour of the whole place. Melon City is one of the largest Saint Bernard breeders in the country, and seeing it in person was something else.
Before I ever met Yolo, I met an old dog I believe was named Gandalf. He was about 12 and the biggest dog I have ever seen. He was mostly deaf and mostly blind, but he knew someone was there, so he started barking, just in the wrong direction. I said, “I’m over here.” He turned and barked again, and this time he overshot me. The third time I spoke, he put his head down and walked right over for scratches. Very sweet fella. I still think about him.
Then I went over to the girls’ kennel and met Melon City Yolo. She had been a proper kennel dog, living outdoors there for quite a while. But when I looked at her, I could see a sweetness and a connection in her eyes.
She rode with Jeff and me down to Virginia, then up to Cape Cod and home to Falmouth, Massachusetts, in the truck, and she was a proper lady the whole way. No trouble at all, and her tail was always wagging.
She is approaching 10 now and is a happy, healthy house dog. She fit into life here quickly. She gave me two litters: the first gave me Bolt, and the second gave me Caesar. She has been a wonderful mother every time. She takes to her puppies well, schools them well and does a great job training them in the kennel. Everything at FzyBr Saints traces back to her, and that is why she will always be my foundation female.
Special thanks to Jeff and Darcy Petersen for entrusting us with Yolo.
