About Dino
Dino was born April 24, 2018, in the Rat Pack litter, the very first FzyBr litter. His sire was Beric’s Sweet Retreat (Danny) and his dam was our Lola Mae. One of my proudest moments with him was his Best in Specialty Show at the Northern New Jersey Saint Bernard Club specialty under judge Vic Dingus, with Kim Goodwin handling him as his owner. He is forever in our hearts.
Dino and the Rat Pack Litter
Lola Mae gave us three boys in that first litter, and I named them after the Rat Pack. Frankie, registered as Fuzzy Bear’s Summer Wind, was the tall, elegant, smooth coated (Stockhaarig) fella. Sammy, Fuzzy Bear’s Candyman, was always the prankster, the fuzzy, furry, fun guy of the bunch. And then there was Dino, Fuzzy Bear’s Amore’. Dino was the personality. Looking back, the names fit those three about as well as names ever could. You will notice the registered names use the original Fuzzy Bear spelling, from the years before our kennel became FzyBr.
Dino always stayed really close to his mom. At the same time he was the most adventurous of the three, and probably the most stable and stout puppy in the whelping box. That combination of confidence and steadiness is something you hope for in every puppy, and Dino had it from the start.
How Dino Found Kim
Kim Goodwin and I connected on Facebook. She had two other Saint Bernards and was asking me about activities she could do with them. I offered her Dino, as long as she agreed to show him and finish his championship in conformation. I also invited her to a CGC evaluation at the Grand Slam, the shows the New England Saint Bernard Club puts on with the Northern New Jersey and Finger Lakes clubs, where I was supposed to evaluate her two dogs. As it turned out I was sick that weekend and stayed home, and someone else did the evaluation. It didn’t matter. Kim got bitten by the bug.
From there, Kim took Dino all over the country. Her mom, Carolyn, backed her up every step of the way as they traveled, and together they kept stacking titles on him. Dino did well in the show ring, and he excelled in performance events too, including drafting, rally and obedience. Kim and Carolyn put in all the miles on the road that earned those titles. During the 2023 National week in Wheeling, West Virginia, Dino took an Award of Merit at one of the preshows.
Dino lived with Kim for a while, and later I partnered with Carolyn. I will always be grateful to both of them for what they gave this dog and what he gave back. Dino came from our very first litter, and I still smile every time I think of that little guy who never strayed far from his mom.
