Female Saint Bernards at FzyBr Saints
Our female Saint Bernards are the foundation of the FzyBr Saints breeding program. We breed selectively, with an emphasis on health, temperament, sound structure, breed type, and preserving the qualities that make the Saint Bernard what it is.
Just as important, our dogs are family first. Breeding is something we consider carefully, not something every dog is expected to do.
What We Look for in Our Females
A pedigree matters, but the dog standing in front of us matters more. We look at the whole Saint Bernard and what she may contribute to the next generation.
Health & Vitality
Health screening, family history, longevity, reproductive health, and overall vitality all matter.
Temperament
We value stable, confident and trustworthy Saint Bernards with the characteristic temperament of the breed.
Structure & Soundness
A giant working dog should be structurally sound and capable of moving comfortably and efficiently.
Breed Type
We want our dogs to remain unmistakably Saint Bernards while balancing type with health and soundness.
The Female Family Behind FzyBr
Our program has developed over generations rather than individual litters. Kings Mill Hemie, known at home as Lola Mae, helped establish the foundation. Melon City Yolo then became one of the defining females of FzyBr Saints.

Lola Mae helped establish the standards we carried into the next generation. Her temperament, character and maternal qualities were an important part of the early FzyBr program and helped shape what we wanted in the females that followed.
Melon City and FzyBr Saints
Jeff and Darcy Petersen of Melon City Saints have been important to the development of FzyBr Saints. Their experience, mentorship and dogs helped provide a foundation from which our own program could develop.
That influence became especially important through Melon City Yolo, and it remains visible in our dogs today.
Yolo
Melon City Yolo
Yolo has had a profound influence on FzyBr Saints. More than any individual show result, her importance is found in the dogs and generations she produced.
Her 2022 breeding to CH Notorious Tru Blu Gixxer, bred by Jeff Creasy of Notorious Tru Saints, produced our keeper FzyBr’s Bolthor, known as Bolt. Yolo also produced FzyBr’s Caesar and Melon City Luka.
Through Melon City Luka, Yolo became the grandmother of Remi, allowing us to bring a female from this family back into FzyBr another generation later.
Bolt: A Meaningful Measure of the Breeding
Bolt was our keeper from Yolo’s breeding to CH Notorious Tru Blu Gixxer of Jeff Creasy’s Notorious Tru Saints.
At the 2023 Northern New Jersey Saint Bernard Club/SBCA Regional, breeder-judge Bob Sykora of Van Rijn Saints judged the Dogs and awarded Bolt Winners Dog for a five-point major. When asked what separated Bolt, Bob’s answer was simple: balance.
Bolt then advanced to the breed judging, where Glenn Radcliffe awarded him an Award of Merit.
Those wins were gratifying, but their greater value to us was the independent evaluation of a dog we had bred and retained. Bolt gave us another piece of information about what Yolo could produce and what we wanted to carry forward.
Remi
Remi brings that family forward another generation. She is Yolo’s granddaughter through Melon City Luka and Southern Giant’s Helen.
Helen, owned by Carolyn Cataldo of Opdyke Kennel, was Reserve Winners Bitch at the 2024 Saint Bernard Club of America National Specialty. She is by CH Melon City Apollo and out of CH Selma Herbu Przygoda.
That made Remi especially interesting to us. She brings Yolo’s family back through Melon City Luka while Helen contributes another Melon City connection through Apollo and a different female family through Selma.
Carolyn’s willingness to let Remi come to FzyBr gave us the opportunity to continue with a family we know while adding another generation of selection and a different combination of bloodlines.
Looking Ahead: Remi and Caesar
One of the possibilities Remi creates for the future is a potential breeding to Caesar. Caesar is Yolo’s son, while Remi returns to Yolo through her son Melon City Luka.
Two Paths Back to Yolo
We think of that possibility as a bookend breeding: returning to a female whose influence we know well through two different paths, while retaining the contributions made by the generations between.
It is a possibility, not a promise. Remi’s maturity, health, temperament and development, along with everything we know when the time comes, will determine whether it becomes a breeding.
Dogs First, Always
Our female Saint Bernards are members of our family before they are part of a breeding program. Their value is never determined by whether they produce puppies.
We breed when we believe an individual dog is an appropriate candidate and a proposed breeding can contribute something worthwhile to the next generation. A pedigree creates possibilities. It never creates an obligation to breed.
